Baroque music and Christmas, it is generally known, go very well together. However, it does not always have to be Bach, Corelli or Händel. The Vocalensemble Rastatt and the Baroque orchestra Les Favorites under Holger Speck here present a whole series of little known early Baroque music for Advent and Christmas by, among others, Johannes Eccard, Michael Praetorius, Johann Hermann Schein and Andreas Hammerschmidt which can be recommended as serious alternatives to the well-tried evergreens. The interested music lover has the opportunity to become acquainted with a number of musical gems which will also evoke a distinctly contemplative Christmas atmosphere in the home.
